Absolutely delicious! The mala tang is full of flavor, spicy and satisfying, while the fried skewers are crispy and addictive. Great portion sizes and super fresh ingredients. Perfect spot for a comforting meal—I’ll definitely be coming back again!

A fantastic spot for anyone who loves rich, spicy Sichuan flavours. You pick your own ingredients—fresh vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, seafood, and meats—and they cook it in a fragrant mala broth that can be customised from mild to extra-spicy. Everything tastes fresh and the soup is full of depth. #genastar

I really love the mala soup here — it’s the best mala hotpot I’ve had in Australia! There’s quite a good variety of ingredients to choose from, and most importantly, they even have peeled shrimp! There are also different types of meat and noodles, though not an overwhelming amount. What I like most is the malatang broth — rich, flavorful, and perfectly spicy (with several spice levels to choose from). The self-serve bar is fairly clean, though the seating area could be better. The prices are reasonable too, and you even get a 5% discount when paying in cash! ????????

I recently visited a hotpot restaurant, and honestly, I left with mixed feelings. The place has a casual, self-service concept where you pick your own ingredients, which I actually like because it feels fun and interactive. However, when it came to the soup base, I felt a bit disappointed. The broth wasn’t as rich or flavorful as I expected — it lacked that deep, spicy kick and aromatic punch that a good mala soup should have. It wasn’t terrible, just kind of flat. The restaurant itself had a nice, lively vibe when I went, and it was quite busy. Despite the crowd, I noticed that the staff were pretty quick at cleaning tables, which I appreciated. However, the tables for two people were a bit too small; once all the bowls, dipping sauces, and ingredients arrived, it felt cramped. Another small issue was that some of the dipping sauce bowls didn’t look completely clean — not dirty enough to complain about, but just not spotless, which made me a bit hesitant. Overall, it was an okay experience. I liked the idea and the fast service, but I probably wouldn’t rush back unless they improved the soup base. For a restaurant that focuses on flavor and spice, I think the broth should be the highlight — and this one just didn’t hit that mark.

Food: The food at Mrs. Zan's Kitchen is truly authentic, transporting me back to the flavors of China. The prices are incredibly affordable, with meals costing just a few dollars—around $17 AUD for a generous portion compared to $20 AUD at other places. The selection is extensive and comparable to other mala tang establishments, making it a fantastic value for money. It's a must-try for any student on a budget! Service: The service here is commendable. Although the utensils may sometimes be a bit dirty, the staff are more than willing to address any concerns promptly. Their willingness to assist creates a welcoming atmosphere, making your dining experience enjoyable. Atmosphere: The ambiance of the restaurant is clean and comfortable, providing a great space to sit and chat with friends without feeling rushed. There are also private rooms available for more intimate conversations. Overall, the atmosphere is conducive to a relaxed dining experience. Conclusion: I highly recommend Mrs. Zan's Kitchen; it’s a solid 10 out of 10 for me! Whether you're looking for authentic Chinese flavors or just a budget-friendly meal, this place is definitely worth a visit.

This is the tastiest and most flavorful mala tang I’ve had in Chinatown, Melbourne. I absolutely love this place! If someone asked me which mala tang spot I like the most, this would be my top answer. Even though the food options might be lesser than at other places, the flavor is second to none. I think Thai people (or anyone who loves bold, spicy flavors) would definitely enjoy it too. I used to come here often when I was living in Melbourne. Sometimes there’s even a queue, but it’s worth the wait. P.S. If you can’t handle spicy food, this place doesn’t offer a non-spicy broth option. My friend, who can’t eat spicy food (at all), tried it and still found it too hot.
